A Walk Around Library Park

Welcome to the Library Park historical walking tour! 2020 marked the 150th anniversary of the Holyoke Public Library, as well as the 118th year at its present location. Over the years, the area surrounding what is now called Library Park has undergone waves of change. The majority of the buildings in this tour date from a span of roughly 50 years, from the 1880s to the 1930s. That period saw a wave of development, beginning with high-end apartments, and transitioning over time to cultural institutions such as churches and social clubs. This tour dives into 10 of those developments. Join us as we take a walk around Library Park!

This tour was designed and curated by Joseph Maspo, M.A., and based on a tour conceived by Robert Comeau that was originally scheduled for April 2020.
